Cafe hopping around the world

Found this place by chance. We just wanted to have ice cream after dinner.

Paper cups decorated and drawn by kids. How cute!

Some ready made ice cream packed in tubs.

Ice cream in the making!

Classic Vanilla (RM11.50) It's a huge scoop, as big as a tennis ball I would say!

Thai Coconut (RM12.50) - this has got to be my favourite! It's so creamy and smooth with tiny coconut bits... I'll definitely be back for more of it.. I actually prefer this over Sangkaya's.

This quaint little cafe caught my attention as I was strolling down Myeongdong shopping area. Behold, it's just the first flight of staircase. I think the cafe itself is on the 2nd or 3rd floor.

The interior of the cafe. So rustic like some old coffee place in England or something.

Some specialty coffee I've ordered. This is the place to be after a long day of shopping!

...and they gave me one scoop of Vanilla Ice Cream! So nice of them!

They also serve desserts too if you're feeling hungry.

Another Australian-inspired cafe, owned by Kar Wai & Kar Heng. Sounds familiar? They are the same people behind Underground Société.

I've seen wonderful pictures of their oversized drinks. I guess that's what they are famous for.

However, the cafe can't really sell drinks only to survive. There are quite a few brunch selections and cakes too.

Some of the items to expect in their menu.

Kar Heng got most of his inspirations from Melbourne. Being a creative student from Swinburne, he did apply some of his creativity in the cafe.

The cafe is just so busy, thank goodness we had a long table reserved for us.

The messed up family

Literally messed up. It is SO full, there is barely any space to move the items! Garage 51 is very popular for these oversized drinks.

The Cousin (RM18.90) and The Son (RM18.90)

It's really one of the most beautiful drinks I've taken photos of, but the question is how to eat it... The moment I move anything from the mug it just tumbles all the way. Just be very careful! Also, the portion is really too huge for one to finish, it'd be a good portion to share.

Messy Pancake with Nutella

Messy all the way, squeeze those nutella out for the best results. Oh those pancakes are extremely fluffy even after leaving it for about 5 minutes before consuming!!

Garage Breakfast - Poached Eggs, Beef Salami, Jumbo Sausage, Zucchini Fritters, Enokitake Mushrooms, Sourdough with Peanut Butter and Strawberries

Very daring combination, to add pesto into the egg. I would have never thought that pesto and egg goes well. Strawberries and peanut was a bit too odd for me.

Sourdough with Zucchini Fritters, Poached Eggs, Beef Salami, Cream Cheese, Roasted Cherry Tomato & Enokitake Mushroom

Those eggs are done to perfection, half it and those yolk will ooze out!! I find it really weird to have Japanese mushrooms in my Western Style breakfast, but nevertheless, it mixes well with the eggs. Very good try! I'm actually in love with the pesto egg!!

Special thanks to Kar Wai & Kar Heng for hosting and KetchUp's team for organising the run.

Greyhound is another popular cafe started off in Bangkok.

Like any other cafes, they have a wide range of food and drinks. This place serves alcohol, but not quite ready for beer yet on their first week of opening.

Like any other cafe, they serve savoury food too.

This table for the 3 of us is definitely too small. 4 dishes with wine and we are already struggling. Maybe they don't encourage people to share as the portions are quite small. Us on the other hand loves to share, so we can try a few dishes in one visit.

Sea Salt Caramel Chocolate Cake (RM22)

Very smooth chocolate cake... I would normally avoid chocolate or caramel because it's too sweet for me, but this is just so different!! The sea salt neutralises the overall and it was made to be not that sweet for people like me! Though I have to admit, RM22 for a slice of cake is ridiculous.

Coconut Crepe (RM22)

The crepes are not that great. Crepes are slightly too thick. If it is thinner with more layers of crepes inside it would have been prefect. There is real coconut meat inside, which gives that natural coconut taste. Again, RM22 for that slice of cake is just ridiculous.

Banofee (RM18)

Nothing special. Very tiny portion of Banoffee served in the jar. It is very pretty, but not as wonderful when we started to dig in.

Desserts itself already went up to RM60ish. It was OK but not that fantastic for that kind of price.

Cakes in Klang Valley are at most going for RM14 - RM18 per slice. RM22 for a cafe cake.. Uhh... Not sure if there will be a second time.

The wine too, is way too overpriced for a cafe.

Overall food is alright, there are many selections, from Thai to Western. But again, some of the prices are just exorbitant... as though we are going for some fine dine. Dewakan Malaysia's portion may be small, but the price justifies because it is really good and you can tell the amount of effort they put to decorate the dish. Here in Greyhound it's just a very normal cafe (well, it's quite beautiful inside) but the prices are just a little shocking for the portion with minimal effort to decorate. Very honestly speaking, the desserts are worth my time but the savoury food, just don't bother.

They used to have a shop in Shaw Parade but not anymore. The nearest to me is probably the one at Pekan Ampang. Not sure if they have any other outlets. But yes, spot these unfriendly gates. It is not obvious at all, if you miss it, you will miss it. They are only open on weekends. It is very crucial that you have to remember to call them at the door otherwise you won't be able to get in.

The menu. I have no clue... Can't read :(

Looks like a chemistry lab isn't it?! Coffee chemistry...

The owners presumably, are very helpful. I just told her my preference and she explained everything from A-Z, even though I'm not really that knowledgeable, she managed to cook something nice for me.

Did I also mention that their homemade cakes are to die for?! Their cakes are always different, this time we had the Passionfruit cheesecake. These are Taiwanese passionfruits which she claimed to be different from the usual one we normally get. Stuffed in between the really light cheesecake. I fell in love with their cheesecakes!

I had the hot coffee, can't remember what was the name. But it was mild because I didn't want anything strong. Served in that wine glass as the taste is different when it's hot and chilled. Especially when it is chilled, that's when the aroma is stronger.

The one on the right side is the cold drip coffee. That, was much stronger than the hot one I've ordered. It all drills down to personal preference. Just tell them yours and they'll brew it to your taste buds.

We also bought a small pack of local coffee beans. From the plantation in Kulai.

Cakes and more cakes. They also have cold coffee to go.

It's a different concept compared to the other coffee shops that you get out there. It is much more personalised, more cozy. It gets even better when the people who are selling, are knowledgeable. Next it is the service, they are really friendly. The place is really small so if you're going in a group it is better to reserve a table. I arrived at 1pm sharp, being one of their first for their day, got the opportunity to select my table.

There are two outlets in Klang Valley - one in Damansara Uptown and the other is in Sunway. Honestly, I am not a fan of pies.

This one particular pie caught my attention, which I did not try to for the day. I will save it for another time!

A very big thank you to Alice & Josiah for showing us around and introducing some of their popular pies. According to Josiah, the pies are very much Aussie influence. It ticked me for a bit when he said that, I should have had some of those pies back in Melbourne!!

Some people can't take sweet stuff as staple food, so it's a good thing they have savoury pies.

The best-selling signature pulled lamb pie, topped with mashies, mushy peas and brown sauce.

For those of you who are not a fan of peas, you can opt for the Chicken and Mushroom Pie. I'm quite surprised that a whole lot of people that I know, dislike peas! To be fair I am one of them, but I'm totally fine with mushy ones.. I can't deal with fish and chips without peas!! Back to chicken and mushroom, I personally prefer this version over the signature lamb, it's the combi of mushroom, chicken and brown sauce! Personally, chicken, mushroom, mashies and brown sauce can never go wrong... Mmmmm...

Apparently the latest addition - Nachos Pie. It does not look that good, it does not sound good... But boy, it's my favourite of all 3!!! First of all, Nachos is already a win, having it together with mashies, cheese and deep down under it is filled with generous portion of Chilli Con Carne. I can't believe the combi is actually that good! Like the usual Nachos platter you will order at a Bar, it comes all in one pie.

The Elvis Pie - the creamy pie with chocolate, peanut butter and banana.

Nutella Pie topped with a huge scoop of ice cream. If you love Nutella you should really get this. The upper layer is slightly overly crusted like a cookie, perhaps I might have left it it out for too long before consuming it. Nevertheless, ice cream will always save the world. :)

The signature S'mores is my favourite. Pie filled with Belgium Chocolate and tiny marsh mellows, lightly roasted and warm. Honestly, I do not really like chocolate. But this one hit the jackpot, it was not very sweet and it neutralises with the pie base. So good I had more than my usual quota!!

Special thanks to KetchUp's team for organising the run.
