Cafe hopping around the world

The bestie decided to buy us dinner for her birthday... and she recommended this place. Who knows this hidden gem is so good?! We went for the 5 course dinner and boy, you'll be surprised that it's more than enough.

There are some snacks servings, which is not stated in the menu. The snack itself could have already been considered as 1 course!

Snack #1 - Deep fried Choysum Crisps.

A little oily because it's deep-fried. Drink loads of water to avoid dry throat.

Snack #2 - Wantan with Lamb and Jackfruit fillings.

Definitely not your regular wantan.. Sweet, savoury, very mild gamey all wrapped and deep fried. It's really something different.

Snack #3 / Palette Cleanser - Frozen Yogurt with Roselle Leather, Cuttlefish, Cumin and Lime Zest.

This bite size snack is as huge as your thumb. Do not leave it out for too long, it's small and its frozen. It will melt... The red-ish thingy which wraps the yogurt is the roselle leather. No it has nothing to do with your leather shoes, so don't worry. The texture of it is slightly chewy - it felt as though I was biting a piece of paper. Like Viet spring roll sheet. The taste of the cumin is so strong I actually didn't really like it. It's quite amazing to get so many different flavours in just one small bite.

Course #1 - Blue Mackerel - Cured Mackerel, Ulam Raja, Pomelo, Local Flowers

Course #2 - Roast Mushrooms - King Oyster Mmushrooms, Green Curry Paste, Yoghurt, Dried Mackerel Flakes

Course #3 - Braised Aubergine - Braised in Mushroom Stock, Jackfruit Seeds, Black Bean Sauce, Garlic Emulsion

Course #4 - Lamb - Confit of Lamb Breast, Spring Onions, Marsala and Onion Puree

Course #4 - Pike Conger - Smoked Pike Conger, Custard, Fermented Long Beans Relish, Roasted Okra, Clams Foam

Course #4 - Duck - Roast Duck Breast, Duck Leg Rillette, Beetroots, "Blood" Sauce

Course #5 - Mulberry Jam, Cardamom Ganache, Cashew Brittles, Pucuk Gajus, Mulberry Snow

Snack #4 - Popsicle

5 courses is more than enough for small eaters like me. Men should probably go for 10 courses. Then again it's only a couple of dollars extra for 10 courses. This is one place I'd recommend for people who loves fine dining food. It's not just the usual western flavours, it's very fusion, incorporating a lot of local herbs and flowers to create that sensation. It's not your usual cheese, cream or caviar, but it's fresh local items. For something like that in Europe will probably costs 2-3 times more expensive because they can't get herbs as fresh.

I will definitely revisit this place when they change the menu. Oh the dinner went for about 3 hours +. So take your time to enjoy the night.

 M&M's at Leicester Square

 Four floors of fun!!

M&M candies, just pick whichever colour that you like :)

More like a candy museum than a shop, isn't it?!

It's pretty commercialized, from just coloured candies to pillows, shirts, jewelries, ties, mugs, you name it... Oh well, that's because concept store is a trend..

If so happen you're in Klang Valley, there's nothing sweeter than starting this new year with chocolate. I mean loads of chocolate!!!

It's happening on the 8th til 10th of January, that's this coming weekend at Mid Valley Exhibition Centre from 11am til 9pm.

There will be loads of fun activities such as chocolate fondue, chocolate appreciation, live chocolate printing, chocolate making demo and many more. If you need more info please visit their website at http://www.chocolatefair.com.my/index.htm

Damn it!!! I have to be back in Penang during the weekend for YT's birthday. Regret to say this, but I won't be there :(
We forgot to tell you, in Cupcakes Party, we don't just party ourselves and forget about our readers totally. For the first round of readers appreciation program, we're giving away a cupcake handphone charm as a token of appreciation.

Aren't they adorable? So pretty and colourful. Somehow it looks like candy. Of course it's not edible. It's made out of polymer clay. To be exact..........it's handmade out of polymer clay.

Stephanie was the person who baked all these mini cupcakes. And she's the one who sponsored this very first readers appreciation program. Love you, Steph!!!!

Steph has a blogshop where she sells all her handmade jewelries. Personally, I'm quite addicted to her charm bracelets now. I confess I visit her blogshop everyday just to find out if she made any new stuff. You can also visit her blogshop to check out what other jewelries she has. To be honest, the photos on her blogshop didn't do much justice. The real thing is much more attractive. When I was browsing on the internet, I didn't thought of buying any of her stuff. But when I saw it with my very own eyes, I couldn't resist buying two charm bracelets.

How to get that exquisite handphone cupcake charm?

YT asked me to come out with a competition. Being the usual lazy pig, I just can't stretch my mind to think of anything creative. So, the first person who leaves a comment with his/her email will be the winner. Easy! What are you waiting for? Comment now!

stephanie

These are definitely something that will bring out the girlish part of me *aww~~*! Cookie, marshmallow, sandwich biscuit and lolli, aren't these handmade polymer clay charms uber cute?

The talented maker, Stephanie is a friend of mine who owns an online store. Among all her creations, I love these sweet treats most.
It's a perfect gift for a dessert lover, don't you think so?

I also bought some Italian products from Lipscombe the other day - sfogliatine and peach tea.

The Asolo Dolce sfogliatine is the best ever. I've never tasted anything close to its taste. In case you don't speak Italian, sfogliatine is sugar topped sweet puff pastries. Coupled with the Santa Vittoria iced peach tea, it's really good. That small little bottle of peach tea cost me $7.90. No wonder the Italians are so rich!

I know, I know... you guys must be thinking, "this is not a dessert". But my one-dessert-a-day plan is not going that well. I was thinking, if I stuff him with dessert everyday, he might get bored. So today I make some simple finger food - fresh salmon on breadstick with onion chive cheese.

First, you spread olive oil on the breadstick and bake in the oven. Slowly cut the salmon. I adopted some skill here from my Japanese chef ex-boyfriend. But I don't think mine looks that good.

Then just twirl the salmon on the breadstick. Easy!

Eat with any type of cheese you like. I think it taste better with pepper cheese, but not too sure... haven't tried.

After I made it, I found out that I don't have a long container to pack the breadstick. So I had to use cling wrap. It looks so ugly now...

We don't do link on this site to avoid other people from asking us to link their unrelated sites. To keep this site purely dedicated to sweet stuff, we've came to a conclusion never to add links on our side bar. But there are many sites that we visit often. More often than we visit this site itself. These are the sites that we love:

  1. The Cupcake Bakery - The Cupcake Bakery is run by Christine Lee, who has been baking for over 10 years. You can check out her creations and order via online through her site.
  2. Grandma's Dessert Recipes - Everything that has the word 'grandma' on it sounds traditional. This site provides you different traditional recipes to desserts. It is easily navigated through the sidebar. We just love the wide range of recipes on the site.
  3. Cupcake Culture - You won't bother about the words on this blog. All you can see is beautiful photos everywhere. You can almost lick the screen.
  4. Sweet Cuisine - This is a personal blog of a pastry chef. Sometimes we just love to know what's happening behind the kitchen before our dessert is served.
  5. The Cupcakery - Everything nice under the sun can be found in this blog; from cupcakes to well-being tips.
  6. Cakespy - This blog talks about everything on cakes. Cupcakes, spongecakes, cheesecakes, and whatever cakes you can find in this world. A plus point for this blog is the beautiful illustration updated every Friday.
  7. Dessert First - The blogger calls herself the Pastrygirl. We love that name. You can get comprehensive recipes from the Pastrygirl and also various information about being a pastry chef.
  8. Cupcake Recipes - Cupcake lovers, you must bookmark this. It's virtually important to get a good recipe on cupcakes.
  9. Foodbuzz - This is a food portal where you can find everything you wanted to know about food, from restaurants to recipes to products. Join foodbuzz and get connected to other foodies.
  10. *Any idea what shall I put here?

We've only got 9 of our favorite links. For the sake of completing the 10th slot, will you suggest a good food blog, particularly on dessert? It might be your blog. Who knows if it's worth our read.

Gourmet Traveller is arguably the best food magazine I've ever subscribed. I'm not sure if you have this magazine sold in your country, though. For over a year I've been reading this magazine and finally in this month issue... CUPCAKES ON THE FRONT PAGE!!!

That's brown sugar butterfly cupcakes with raspberry cream. It sounds really delicious.

This is rosy cupcakes with Turkist delight. Really innovative.

The sugared citrus cakes. But where are the cups? I thought cupcakes are supposed to come in the cups?

Here are the spiced honey cakes.

And finally the plum cakes.

I swear there are more cupcakes and recipes in Gourmet Traveller this month. Cupcakers grab this month issue and frame it up. They are so pretty you'll feel like licking the pages of the magazine. Mark my words, this is the best food magazine ever!
Sue Anne sent this photo to me with a title "for your dessert blog". But, one question....do you this this looks like dessert? I'm not sure if she's referring to the one on the white plate or the one in the plastic cup. I tried to IM her but she's not replying. Why not we play some guessing game this time?

The one on the plate looks more like crispy skin pork to me. Probably she's referring to the one in the plastic cup. But I still can't figure out what dessert is that. Any idea anyone?
I've been reading about war law since 9am and finally at 8pm, I decided to take a break. Initially I planned to do some painting, but I was thinking, I should bake instead. Cupcakes lining is overflowing my kitchen and it's becoming a nuisance. For some reason, I always get attracted by beautiful cupcakes lining. At the end of the day, I can't bake as fast as I shop for cupcakes lining.

Anyway, I mixed all the ingredients and finally I realized....I RAN OUT OF MILK! I put on my jacket, take some cash and off I went to the supermarket to get some milk. The walk was approximately 5km. As I was about to pay for the milk, I found out I lost $10! I had no choice but to use my credit card. How embarrassing to pay $2.95 with credit card. The cashier told me that I couldn't use my card for purchase less than $5. So I bought two bottles of milk.

I came home, and continued on. I was kinda suspect I forgotten something. And then, I realized that I forgotten the eggs. Where did my mind gone? I open up my fridge. GUESS WHAT??? Some idiot cooked all my eggs and left the empty box in my fridge. But then again...that idiot could be me. Since I'm staying alone and not many would come to my kitchen to cook, anyway.

So off I went...5km again to the supermarket. Can you imagine....I walked 10km in less than an hour. I seriously need to get a car! It's either I get a car, or I get myself organized.

Here are my cupcakes, ready to be dispatched at my work place.

The chef loves the cupcake. My boss hates the pink color sprinkles. The kitchen hand doesn't like banana, it so happen I baked banana cupcakes.

Markus called me up just after I finish baking. He needed some help with the cooking for his house warming party. Since I have surplus of custard at home, I made for him some custard caramel pudding. They look so ugly in the plastic container. Oh well, he has to bring it over to his house.

I didn't taste the custard pudding because it was a rush. It was his fault that he called me up so late, and I didn't have time to make them properly. I wonder did anyone get diarrhoea after the party?

Hmmm...this is the disaster of baking due to 11 hours overdosed with words on war.
I'm becoming insane because there is a lack of sugar in my body. Last week, while Alwin was buying lunch, I told him I wanted to take away the Mango Sago Dessert from the Taiwanese shop. They told me it wasn't ready yet and it takes four hours more to wait. I didn't have four hours because my girlfriend bought tickets to watch The Confession of Shopaholic. So I had my lunch without the Mango Sago Dessert.

On weekend, I went there for the same thing. Unfortunately the shop was closed :(

And today...after a long day of hectic work, I thought of having some warm Mango Sago, the boss told me they couldn't find any mango during this season. I feel like cursing!

Am I just bad luck, or what?

I'm going to forget the Mango Sago. I don't think I will get it anyway.

A friend asked me why I don't bake that often now. That's because I've moved house. And my new kitchen sucks!

The space is too small and I feel claustrophobic. But that's not really the main issue. The oven sucks too! And that's the thing that annoys me til now.

I burnt my fairy cupcakes on the first time because I haven't got used to the oven. It's been three months since I moved in, but I still haven't get a hang of it, especially to adjust the temperature.

The only successful bake was the Victorian Sandwich I made for Dixon and Alwin. Tonight I'm going to bake some banana cupcakes. Markus bought some banana for me last night and I don't know what else to do with it.

By the way, Eastlands Cheesecakehouse bakery is really good. I only tried the Baked Cheesecake. It was fabulous.
