Cafe hopping around the world

Some pictures from Sweet Hut. They serve mainly HK style desserts. We had most of their signatures but none of them left a superb impression. It's either too sweet or taste is too artificial. Even my favourite egg tarts, did not ace.

Like it's name, it's just a nice space for Instagrammers to post their Instagram worthy shots.

Regular teabags served in pretty pots, desserts pre-made, not particularly fresh.

All in all, just another pretty cafe in this area for Instagram shots. It's a cool and pretty place but really, nothing worth to make a second visit.

We were greeted by this really unfriendly staff... and that was my first impression even though the cafe is cute and pretty.

RM12.90 for Churros and chocolate (I stupidly asked for Kaya because I thought it'd be a great combo!)

Turns out that it was the biggest mistake that night.. The Kaya tasted awfully weird. I should have just stick to their recommendation which is the chocolate!!

So I had to signal them from far, just to request for a takeaway box. The staff responded by lifting his hand and push his palms towards his direction asking me to go over instead. I did not because it's would be so funny to carry this all the way to the counter... I didn't sign up for your job, did I? It was just this one particular guy who is really lazy and unfriendly. Other staffs seemed normal.

Aside to that, I might try again if I ever crave for chocolate. They have plenty of chocolate selections for all you chocolate lovers!

The waffle shop that has many varieties of waffles, but it just didn't seem right to receive one which was lukewarm cold. They claim to be selling good grade, freshly baked waffles using the finest ingredients but it's quite questionable. I felt as though it has been prepared ahead, hence, lukewarm cold. Thus, not too sure baout the  It wasn't as fresh as expected. Not sure if I will try it again.. Possibly another time - do not want to penalise a shop just because of one try :-)

For a cup for RM10/11 with toppings, wait that's not a cup, it's 1/3 of that cup since the bottom bit is empty just to fill in dry ice for that awesome effect. If I remember correctly it costs RM8 for the plain one.. I don't quite like the idea of the shallow cup, I find it really misleading.. Also, the cotton candy is pretty but just unnecessary. The ice cream was on melting mode before I could dig into it!!

Am I the only one who thinks this cup of ice cream is a little overrated?!?!?! I don't deny this cup of ice cream is really beautiful  though I don't see the value of being a returning customer. Though I wouldn't mind returning another time for the Churros version :)

Scones - cold, dry and hard.

The cake was OK, a bit too sweet. A bit too much cream too.

Apparently their croissants are award-winning ones. Unfortunately it's cold, hard and not even crispy at all. Obviously it has been left on the basket for a very long time...

Only selective branches are good. The one at Kingston is terrible, will not go back again. Besides, the waitress who served us has an attitude, not welcoming at all and rude as well (she asked us if we were going to tip her. Whether we want to tip or it is for us to decide, you don't ask for something you don't deserve at all!). So no way I'm going back to this place. Maybe another branch.

Few days before my birthday, Yvonne wanted to give me a surprise. I felt a little bit suspicious that she left the house early. She told me she had to do something in QV. She didn't tell me what she wanted to do, neither did she asked me to accompany her. Anyway, I found out later that she went to The Cupcake Family located at QV Centre to pre-order my birthday cupcakes.

On the same day, (I had no idea she just went there at that time) I went to the same shop to get some macarons after my lunch. Since I had my camera with me, I thought of taking some photos so I could post up in this blog. The sales lady in the shop asked me to delete the photos I took with a stern face. She didn't bother to ask me what I wanted to do with the photos. I could have written a nice review on their shop for free publicity. Too bad, they probably assume that I am some spy that trying to copy their stuff. They could have asked.

On my birthday, I found out Yvonne had gotten me four cupcakes, custom made into Tiffany & Co. and Chanel design. Really lovely...

The day we collected the cupcakes, there were unpleasant experience too. There was a clueless man before us, making up his mind which cupcakes he wanted to get. As he was trying to figure out his choices, Yvonne passed the collection slip to the lady. She looked at Yvonne and said, "Wait!". As a sales lady, I think she should be more courteous and polite instead. We felt that she was ordering us in a way she was trying to execute his discretion.

All she needed to do is to take the collection slip and retrieve our cupcakes to us. That probably will take less than a minute. Instead, we had to wait 15 minutes or more for the man to finally decide what he wants. I know they have first-come-first-served policy. But times like these, you really have to bend the rule so that you'll be more efficient. Don't you think so? If the man is going to take half hour, it doesn't make sense for other customers to wait there without getting served.

We weren't that happy with the cupcakes too. Yvonne ordered two blueberries and two vanillas, and each of the flavor for each design. So we can get different design for different flavor. Instead, they gave us two blueberries for the Chanel design and two vanillas for the T&Co. They totally fucked up the order.

I could have forgive all the misfortunes if the cakes very nice. Sadly, they're not. The cakes were too dry. And the frosting was too sweet. I felt like I just put a cup of sugar into my mouth as I was chewing. The frosting was too hard, I had to peel them off and throw them away to avoid getting diabetes.

If you're wondering... No, I will not go back to this shop. There is a better cupcake store in Melbourne (which I will blog about it after this).

The only credit I will give to this shop is their fabulous design on the cupcakes. The customer service sucks big time. And the most disappointment is the cupcakes taste itself.

I can't imagine myself eating while blogging these:
Hotlix, a company based in California, is well known for producing queer confectionaries for over 25 years. Let's look at what's in their menu.
Tequilla-flavoured lollipop
The lollipop is the very first invention by Hotlix back in 1982.

Chocolate-dipped scorpions
Chocolate covered crickets
Chocolate quoted worms
Eeeeewww.....
With strawberry milk chocolate flavor.

And Maggot toffee apples.
Worms for dessert, anyone???
It's been awhile since I've been served some shocking dessert.

Earlier this evening, I thought I should call my housemate Jo to go out for dinner. We decided to eat in Charms (1-Utama). As usual, after our meal, we were so enthusiastic to order our favourite Sago Gula Melaka. But it turned out like this....

What the F??? When did the sago turned green? Isn't it suppose to be white??? And it has some weird topping with funky colors on it. And that weird thing reminded me of...

SPERM!!! Oh my gosh... I lost my apetite. It's seriously gross. Who the hell would make an edible stuff in the shape of sperm... Of all things...
Sometimes some weird looking desserts can taste good. But not this one!
The gula melaka (palm sugar) is not as fragrant as it suppose to be. So we suspect that it's just syrup. Cheapskate! And the coconut milk is too diluted. The sago... erm... res ipsa loquitor.

Couldn't finish it. Gave up...

A bad dessert at the end of a meal is like a bad ending of a movie. The disappointment will linger on so long that it will dampen your mood.
Recently, my anniversary dinner was given a very bad ending. Whether the main course earlier was good or not, it doesn't matter anymore. They've screwed up my favourite part of the meal and my mood for the night :( If you are a dessert lover, you'd probably understand my feelings.
We went to Eighteen Restaurant & Wine on Friday night. First of all, they don't have an impressive dessert menu, and the waitress had 'duly informed' me that "no cakes are available" for that night.
I failed to understand the omen signalling a "dessert disaster" and happily ordered an Orange Crepe.
It turned out to be... scarily disastrous!
(Let's skip the part that they served me a 'wrong' dessert at first, which is also a crepe but nothing orang-y)
My Orange Crepe turned out to be a very "confusing-tasting" pancake-like thingy! What is the chef thinking when he serves me orange crepe with strawberry ice-cream? The two tasted so weird together!
And to make things even worse, they topped my crepe with a mixture of cheapo medicine-tasting orange and strawberry syrups. Gah! It was terrible!
If you are not sure what flavor goes best with your orange crepe, why not try something conventional... like vanilla? Even my bf, who usually don't complain bout food, said: this is so wrong!
For the price I am paying (if not mistaken RM7.50 or so), I definitely do not expect something extravagantly good. But at least serve me something decent enough to be swallowed! It's not my fault for choosing a cheap dessert because that is all you are serving there!

Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah,

You can try the food there, in fact the food wasn't bad and the price is reasonable but please remember to skip dessert if Orange Crepe is the only thing they offer for the night. Else, you risk going home with very confusing tastebuds... :( Yes, I am still sulking!

I was stucked in Sydney last year while taking my connecting flight to Singapore. The lonely traveller then had to check in to Ibis Hotel and had a dinner there. I had a bad day, so I thought some dessert could cheer me up. Guess what??? The dessert itself was a disaster!!!

You can hardly find me criticizing any dessert, but this one just make me shake my head. I haven't written any bad review on any dessert before. I hope this is the first time and also the last time.

Well you can see it from the photo itself. I can't remember what this is called. But it's definitely a cheesecake. The strawberry sauce seems to be ready made, like those you can get in the supermarket. Sometimes you can see it on your fifty cents ice-cream topping.

The raspberry puree was recklessly scooped onto the cake like a pile of rubbish. I can imagine how the preparation is like behind the kitchen. The cook probably scooped it on like a prison food. *Plup...onto the cake.

If you guess the white lumpy thing is vanilla ice-cream? No, it's not. It's whipped cream. Who will ever serve whipped cream with cheesecake?

Now, here's the funny one... When the waitress was serving me, she put the spoon on top of the cake. WTF???? I almost died laughing inside myself. If anyone managed to have a glimpse of my expression, they might think I'm a mad woman...sitting alone at the dining table while controlling so hard not to laugh.

It's either great presentation or no presentation at all. I rather they leave the cake alone. I'll probably enjoy it more.

This cake is a joke!!!!!

P/S: The cake taste just alright. Nothing fantastic. You can even get that taste from normal bakery. Anyway, this is not from a cafe. It's from a hotel restaurant!
