Cafe hopping around the world

  • About Us
Another Australian-inspired cafe, owned by Kar Wai & Kar Heng. Sounds familiar? They are the same people behind Underground Société.

I've seen wonderful pictures of their oversized drinks. I guess that's what they are famous for.

However, the cafe can't really sell drinks only to survive. There are quite a few brunch selections and cakes too.

Some of the items to expect in their menu.

Kar Heng got most of his inspirations from Melbourne. Being a creative student from Swinburne, he did apply some of his creativity in the cafe.

The cafe is just so busy, thank goodness we had a long table reserved for us.

The messed up family

Literally messed up. It is SO full, there is barely any space to move the items! Garage 51 is very popular for these oversized drinks.

The Cousin (RM18.90) and The Son (RM18.90)

It's really one of the most beautiful drinks I've taken photos of, but the question is how to eat it... The moment I move anything from the mug it just tumbles all the way. Just be very careful! Also, the portion is really too huge for one to finish, it'd be a good portion to share.

Messy Pancake with Nutella

Messy all the way, squeeze those nutella out for the best results. Oh those pancakes are extremely fluffy even after leaving it for about 5 minutes before consuming!!

Garage Breakfast - Poached Eggs, Beef Salami, Jumbo Sausage, Zucchini Fritters, Enokitake Mushrooms, Sourdough with Peanut Butter and Strawberries

Very daring combination, to add pesto into the egg. I would have never thought that pesto and egg goes well. Strawberries and peanut was a bit too odd for me.

Sourdough with Zucchini Fritters, Poached Eggs, Beef Salami, Cream Cheese, Roasted Cherry Tomato & Enokitake Mushroom

Those eggs are done to perfection, half it and those yolk will ooze out!! I find it really weird to have Japanese mushrooms in my Western Style breakfast, but nevertheless, it mixes well with the eggs. Very good try! I'm actually in love with the pesto egg!!

Special thanks to Kar Wai & Kar Heng for hosting and KetchUp's team for organising the run.

There are two outlets in Klang Valley - one in Damansara Uptown and the other is in Sunway. Honestly, I am not a fan of pies.

This one particular pie caught my attention, which I did not try to for the day. I will save it for another time!

A very big thank you to Alice & Josiah for showing us around and introducing some of their popular pies. According to Josiah, the pies are very much Aussie influence. It ticked me for a bit when he said that, I should have had some of those pies back in Melbourne!!

Some people can't take sweet stuff as staple food, so it's a good thing they have savoury pies.

The best-selling signature pulled lamb pie, topped with mashies, mushy peas and brown sauce.

For those of you who are not a fan of peas, you can opt for the Chicken and Mushroom Pie. I'm quite surprised that a whole lot of people that I know, dislike peas! To be fair I am one of them, but I'm totally fine with mushy ones.. I can't deal with fish and chips without peas!! Back to chicken and mushroom, I personally prefer this version over the signature lamb, it's the combi of mushroom, chicken and brown sauce! Personally, chicken, mushroom, mashies and brown sauce can never go wrong... Mmmmm...

Apparently the latest addition - Nachos Pie. It does not look that good, it does not sound good... But boy, it's my favourite of all 3!!! First of all, Nachos is already a win, having it together with mashies, cheese and deep down under it is filled with generous portion of Chilli Con Carne. I can't believe the combi is actually that good! Like the usual Nachos platter you will order at a Bar, it comes all in one pie.

The Elvis Pie - the creamy pie with chocolate, peanut butter and banana.

Nutella Pie topped with a huge scoop of ice cream. If you love Nutella you should really get this. The upper layer is slightly overly crusted like a cookie, perhaps I might have left it it out for too long before consuming it. Nevertheless, ice cream will always save the world. :)

The signature S'mores is my favourite. Pie filled with Belgium Chocolate and tiny marsh mellows, lightly roasted and warm. Honestly, I do not really like chocolate. But this one hit the jackpot, it was not very sweet and it neutralises with the pie base. So good I had more than my usual quota!!

Special thanks to KetchUp's team for organising the run.

I have been trying out molten cakes at Softcore, I've tried almost everything!

Peanut Butter Molten Cake

Salted Egg Yolk Molten Cake

Salted Caramel Molten Cake

White Chocolate Molten Cake

Matcha Molten Cake

Lemon Cookie Molten Cake

Cakes are priced between RM15-RM17. If you are looking to have tea or coffee, there are set deals too. Vietnamese drip coffee is highly recommended - it tasted just like the ones I had back in Saigon! Well according to them, beans are sourced all the way from Vietnam. This explains the taste of Saigon! It's good to know where to get my dose of Viet coffee!!

Step aside, Salted Egg Yolk Croissant.. Softcore is finally launching their Salted Egg Yolk Molten Cake after a while of playing around with the recipe!

Like what cakes and curry leaves? It makes a lot of sense to put them together.

If you're an Egg Yolk fan, you have to try this. That rich salted egg yolk oozing out from the cake, that is just so sinful!

Pair it with those crispy curry leaves for the perfect combo.

We were the lucky few to try this fabulous dessert. It will be available by next weekend, priced about RM15 or RM16. I shall be back for more!

*Please note that the cakes all freshly baked. You may need to allow at least 20 minutes of preparation time before being served.

So many cafes popping up in the Klang Valley, I can barely keep up with them!

Every cafe has their selling point, and for Softcore's, it is their Molten Cakes.
Infused water is free of charge. That's the perfect way to keep your customers' happy!

This is their tentative menu, still in discussion on additional items. It would be nice to add more selections for brunch!

I've gotten myself a Matcha Molten Cake (RM15). The cake itself is very good - very rich in Matcha flavours. The little green dots accompanying them are extra flavours which is not really needed actually... The cake itself is so flavourful.

It comes with a really large scoop of homemade vanilla ice cream. Boy, you should know by now that in Klang Valley, ice cream joints are charging at least RM8 for a pitiful scoop! All of the above for just RM15, that is value. The red bean's texture is perfectly smooth, unlike the usual actual beans we get from most green tea desserts. The cute little thinly crisp wafer behind, the sesame tuille, goes well with the ice cream.

One quick pop and look at those matcha lava oozing out... CANNOT RESIST. It doesn't sound very convincing to have Matcha with lime slices, but just give it a try. It's just like duck and waffle, who knows you might enjoy that combo. :)

Everything in Softcore is made from scratch, even Mayonnaise! For the price that they are charging and the amount of effort they put to decorate... It is really value for money. I'm definitely going back to try their savoury bites. Truffle fries, I'm coming for you...
